Thermal performance of TAPS heat pipes with non-condensable gas blockage

چکیده

Over 124,300 heat pipes were installed in vertical support members on the Trans Alaska Pipeline System. Infrared surveys in the early 1980s revealed cold topping on some of these heat pipes. The cold topping was due to an accumulation of non-condensable gases, a by-product of corrosion or chemical dissociation of anhydrous ammonia. In 2000, Alyeska Pipeline Service Company undertook an experimental program to measure the heat transfer performance of cold-topped heat pipes. The test program results are presented and discussed showing the reduction in the heat pipes’ heat transfer performance as a function of hydrogen cold topping levels. Experimental Investigation on Hydrodynamic and Thermal Performance of a Gas-Liquid Thermosyphon Heat Exchanger in a Pilot Plant

Waste heat recovery is very important, because not only it reduces the expenditure of heat generation, but also it is of high priority in environmental consideration, such as reduction in greenhouse gases. One of the devices is used in waste heat recovery is heat pipe heat exchanger.Anexperimental research has been carried out to investigate the hydrodynamic and thermal performance of a gas...

Bubble columns for condensation at high concentrations of non condensable gas: Heat transfer model and experiments

Carrier gas based thermodynamic cycles are common in water desalination applications. These cycles often require condensation of water vapor out of the carrier gas stream. Since the carrier gas is most likely a non-condensable gas present in very high concentrations (60-95%), a large additional resistance to heat transfer is present. We propose to reduce the aforementioned thermal resistance by...

Experimental Investigation on CuO/Water Nanofluid Effect on the Heat Transfer Rate of Heat Pipe Network

In this study, a new configuration of heat pipes as Heat Pipe Network is introduced. Here, the heat pipe network is designed, constructed and then has been under the performance assessment. This heat pipe network consists of 4 vertical heat pipes connected to evaporator collector from bottom and condenser collector from top. In order to investigate the effect of nanofluids on the thermal effici...

Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Finned U-Shaped Heat Pipe of CPU Cooling System Using Different Fluids

This paper experimentally studies the heat absorption performance of a heat sink with vertical embedded heat pipes in the aluminum blade. The cooling system with embedded heat pipes distributes heat from the CPU to both the base plate and the heat pipes, and then transfer heat from fins to the Environment. The thermal resistance and heat transfer coefficient are evaluated for natural convection...
